EAC Dancing Group
1. History
- Foundation Year: 1998
- Impressive dancing shows both in Cyprus and abroad
- Consists of twenty-five members including the music band
2. Aims
- To develop friendship and co-operation between the EAC employees
- To promote the Cyprus culture through music and dance
3. Repertory
- Various programs of both Greek and Cyprus Folklore dances of about 20-30 minutes duration, each showing characteristic pictures of the village lifestyle of Cypriots and Greeks in the past years
4. Cypriot Dances - Characteristics
- Usually a confronted pair invariably two men or two women
- Uniform: traditional Cypriot costumes
- Music: violin, laouto (traditional instrument similar to bouzouki) and tambutsia
- Men's dances: in pairs opposite each other, showing competitive character, improvisation abilities, strength, courage and cleverness
- On the contrary women dances are characterized by slow and shy movements, showing off their qualities such as modesty, solemnity, elegance and demonstrating their skills in needlework.
By using a white handkerchief they are demonstrating their virginity
