Planning Department

AIMS 

  • Continuous improvement in the Reliability, Security and Safety of the Distribution Network and oprtimisation of its efficiency, responding at the same time to the needs and expectations of the Authority’s customers.
  • Carrying out of Studies for the connection of new customers with the aim of
    1. their timely connection
    2. optimising the possibility of utilizing financially the proposed Networks
    3. safety of EAC staff and the general public while showing respect for private property and the environment and cooperating with all interested parties inside and outside the Authority.
  • Continuous endeavor for improving productivity and quality of services offered utilizing its manpower, new technologies and the market potentials.
  • Creation of safe and reliable data bases for quick and safe provision of information to internal and external customers.
  • Creation of a culture characterized by:
    1. Interest in offering and in service
    2. Quick adaptation to changes in the internal and external environment
    3. Continuous training and education in new Technologies.
    4. Continuous endeavor for increasing productivity and quality of services offered. 

SECTORS OF WORK

The Planning Department consists of two Sectors of work:

  • The Studies Sector and
  • The Drawing Office.

The main work of the Planning Department is as follows:

1. Studies sector

  • Handling of Applications

a) (by consumers or generators) for connection to the EAC Network.

b) for resiting of Network

  • Carrying out of studies for extension, reinforcement or modification of EAC Network for the connection of new consumers or generators.

  • Maintenance and analysis of System Data and monitoring of the reliability of the Distribution Network.

  • Carrying out of studies for:

    1. improvement of the reliability and availability of the network
    2. improvement of the flexibility for quick restoration of supply in the event of faults.
    3. improvement of safety for the general public and for the EAC personnel

  • Carrying out of studies for the undergrounding of the distribution network following an application by the appropriate Authorities.

  • Stipulation of the Authority’s views to the appropriate Authorities and interested parties regarding the method of electrification of a given development.

2. Drawing Office

The main work of the Drawing Office is to maintain the information base for the Network and make it available to all Internal and External customers: 

  • Maintenance of information base about the network on LRO plans
  • Plotting, Design and maintenance of a register for the underground cable network
  • Responsibility for the design, supervision and taking over of the distribution substation buildings
  • Maintenance of Single Line Electrical Diagrams of Medium Voltage Network
  • Handling of EAC Stipulations regarding projects of other Services
  • Handling of EAC Stipulations to complement Authorities regarding Construction Developments and Land Developments.

For better service to customers of the planning department 

Due to the nature of their work Officers of the Planning Department (Drawing Office and Studies) are frequently absent from their office for site investigation of applications, for plotting cable routes or supervising Substations.

Even if they are at the Office they are not always available for communication since they may participate in meetings for approval/agreement of the method of supply to a development or be on the move for collection of information or for consultation with other EAC Offices. 

In view of the above Officers of the Department are not always available for providing information or any other kind of Service.

For serving applicants or their Consultants, EAC has introduced the Customer Service Centres (CSC) 

  • Interested parties are urged to communicate with or visit the CSC which provide continuous and prompt service on matters relating to customers' applications. The personnel at CSC will record your queries and pass them over to the competent Officers of the Planning Department. The CSC personnel will communicate with you as soon as it receives the requisite information. If the matter is technical the Officer of the Planning Department dealing with your case will communicate with you.
  • All Architects and Land Developers are urged to seek the views of EAC regarding the method of supply at the stage of preparing the architectural plans and at any rate prior to the completion of structural design or the submission of application for the Town Planning Permit for Commercial Industrial, small Industrial and Domestic developments over four residential units.
  • Before any excavations are carried out in roads, EAC views must be secured since it is possible that there may be underground cables in the area. The views must be sought in writing. For Nicosia please 22202023, for Larnaca call 24202012 or 24202020, for 25205036 and for Paphos 26206030. 
  • The Area’s Drawing Office has a service for indicating on site the existing underground cables, in order to avoid accidents and damage. For on site indications please communicate in time. For Nicosia please call 22202030 or 22202031, for Larnaca 24204032, for Limassol 25205032 ή 25205030 and for Paphos 26206030 or 26206031.
  • For the preparation of plans for Substation buildings and for supervising construction and taking over, please communicate in time. For Nicosia please call 22202332, 22202333 or 22202334, for Larnaca 24204031, 24204032, 24204012, for Limassol please call 25205031, 25205042, 25205040 and for Paphos 26206030 or 26206031. 
  • Visiting to the Planning Department without arranging a meeting beforehand may mean that possibly you may not have the service you want or the service which we would like to offer for the reasons explained in the above first paragraph.

For better service please utilize the CSC or arrange a meeting with the competent Officers.
