MANAGING THE EMERGENCY IN POWER SUPPLY
In order to deal with the emergency that arose on 11/07/2011 following the tragic events are Mari, the Electricity Authority of Cyprus, in collaboration with the Transmission System Operator (TSO) and other bodies, has made and is making constant and intensive efforts to reduce and solve problems relating to the electricity supply, As a result, we have managed to succeed continuity in power supply for the last few weeks in all areas of the island
At present, although the power generation has been reinforced as a result of the above efforts, emergency power cuts are still possible. Therefore, the conscious savings in electricity use by consumers must be continued.
Taking into account the above facts and provided that mild weather conditions would prevail, the risk of further power cuts is diminishing. In the unlikely event of power cuts, please consider the following:
- The power cuts are expected to be of shorter duration and in total of shorter time interval in a day.
- We shall upload the following day’s scheduled power cuts to the EAC website every afternoon based on the forecasts of the Transmission System Operator. If it proves necessary to modify the schedule due to some unforeseen event, a revised indicative schedule will be uploaded to the EAC website in the morning of the same day.
- The areas in which power will be cut have been grouped as shown in the tables below which are divided into districts and which have been slightly modified. The modifications are shown in red. It is likely that these tables will be revised according to circumstances and needs but they will be uploaded to the EAC website at once so that customers have advance warning. You need to discover the group in which your area is included so as to use the indicative table of power cuts to find out when you can expect to be without electricity.

Instructions how to register with the sms notification system
Every interested customer to receive SMS messages for the interruptions, must first locate through the relevant grouping tables his/her premises group number. The description given for each group is helpful in locating this as the groups are broken down by district, town area, main street, village, etc.
After locating his/her premises group number, the mobile telephone subscriber must send an SMS to number 8011 together with his/her group number so as to energise the SMS service for the particular group. The message to be sent consists of two words and a number separated by spaces as below
ON EAC premises group number (e.g. ON EAC 1)
In case a subscriber does not wish to continue with receiving SMS messages about the power interruptions or in the case of entering the wrong group, the subscriber can opt out of the service by sending
OFF EAC premises group number
We thank CYTA and MTN for their kind offer to provide this service free of charge
