Research on Green Hydrogen
The research project entitled Cluster Pilot Project for the Integration of RES into European Energy Sectors using Hydrogen
(RES2H2) was funded under the Fifth Framework Program for Research and Development of the European Commision with 2.5 million Euros. The research contract (Contract No: ENK5-CT-2001-00536) has been signed by EAC in December 2001 for a period of five years (January 2002 - December 2006). The official webpage of the project can be found in www.res2h2.com.
The main objective of this project was the design and the installation of two hydrogen generation and storage pilot units using wind energy. The hydrogen will then be stored in metal hydrides for use in fuel cells for zero emissions electricity production.
Fuel cell principle of operation
EAC has been involved to the selection of information on the
technical features and performance characteristics of the different wind turbines and to the realization of a
techno-economic comparative study for the use of hydrogen in power generation. EAC co-ordinator was
Dr. Andreas Poullikkas and associate scientists were
Dr. George Moniates and
Mr. Zenon Achillides. This research project has been successfully completed.
