 Types of Renewable Energy

Renewable Energy Sources

In our daily life we cover our energy needs almost explicitly from the conventional energy sources, i.e. fuel oil, petrol and mazout.  The electricity we are using comes, primarily from these sources which exhibit two serious disadvantages:

  1. They pollute irrepairably the environment
  2. They are being depleted at fast rates.

On the other hand, renewable energy sources (RES) are replenished through natural cycles and are considered practically inexhaustible.  The sun, the wind, geothermal energy, rivers, organic matter such as wood and even domestic and agricultural refuse, have the potential of becoming energy sources, such that their availability is never exhausted and at the same time their explanation for energy production does not harm the environment.  Cyprus has a good potential for RES, mainly by utilizing solar energy, which can provide a real alternative solution for covering part of our energy needs, this contributing to the conventional fuels, and also to the reduction of the green-house effects to the creation of work positions, the development of remote areas and to savings and hence strengthening of the national economy.  The forms of renewable energy sources appear further down.
