Domestic use Special Tariff for Specific Categories of Vulnerable Customers

The Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (CERA), agreed on 1/8/2010 (by Decision No. 01/2010) to allow the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) to recover costs incurred as a result of the introduction and application of the Domestic Use Special Tariff for Specific Categories of Vulnerable Customers (Code 08), by charging the customers' electricity bills with Public Service Obligations (PSO).

These costs were covered until now through a charge of €0,00065/kWh applied to all electricity bills. This charge is considered as a tariff element and subject to VAT.

A recent EAC study has indicated that the Authority's loss of revenue has increased and the PSO charge thus needs revising.

Following the submission of a relevant suggestion by EAC and its approval by CERA (by Decision No. 91/2018), the PSO charge will rise from €0,00065/kWh to €0,00083/kWh, as from 1st May 2018.

Specifically, the revised PSO charge will be applied to monthly bills based on meter readings from the end of May 2018 and to bimonthly bills based on meter readings from 1st May 2018.
