The Transmission System of EAC faces various challenges concerning:
Changes in the operation of the Electricity Grid (increasing needs for traceability and control of electricity flow as a result of the increasing use of RES),
Increased need for green energy penetration in the Transmission and Distribution System; and
Changes in technologies (increasing needs for increased grid capacity due to the use of RES and electrification of energy).
In order to cope with the current challenges and trends, EAC is undertaking a gradual upgrade of Transmission Substations, where upgrades will be made that will allow for a significant increase in power flow, greater safety and reliability as well as the integration of RES installations and other new technologies such as energy storage.
This project concerns upgrades of Transmission Substations "Papacostas" and "Ipsonas", and the establishment of a new primary substation "Limassol New Port"
Budget of the project Upgrading of Transmission Substations "Papacostas" and "Ipsonas", and the establishment of a new primary substation "Limassol New Port": 15,522,116.50 €
The project is co-funded by the EU within the framework of the Cohesion Policy Programme “THALIA 2021-2027".
