The Transmission System of EAC faces various challenges concerning:
1. Changes in the operation of the Electricity Grid (increasing needs for traceability and control of electricity flow as a result of the increasing use of RES),
2. Increased need for green energy penetration in the Transmission and Distribution System; and
3. Changes in technologies (increasing needs for increased grid capacity due to the use of RES and electrification of energy).
In order to cope with the current challenges and trends, EAC is undertaking a gradual upgrade of Transmission Substations, where upgrades will be made that will allow for a significant increase in power flow, greater safety and reliability as well as the integration of RES installations and other new technologies such as energy storage.
This project concerns upgrades of Strovolos, Orunda, Akursos Transmission Substations and Lanitio Primary Substation
Budget of the project “Upgrading of Strovolos, Orunda, Akursos Transmission Substations and Lanitio Primary Substation”: 20,442,089.20 €
The project is co-funded by the EU within the framework of the Cohesion Policy Programme “THALIA 2021-2027”.
