Announcement by the EAC Board of Directors

Regarding the recent announcement by the EAC trade unions in which they call for strike action on Wednesday 18/3 and on Thursday and Friday 26/3 and 27/3, the EAC Board of Directors wishes to state the following:

  • At this time, when the whole of Cypriot society is being sorely tested by the unprecedented threat from COVID-19, it is unthinkable for anyone to act or to consider acting in a way that creates uncertainty, concern and further problems for Cypriot citizens and broader society. The announcement of strike action by the EAC trade unions amounts to an extreme social provocation.

  • These are times that demand the highest degree of social responsibility, especially on the part of those working in organisations, authorities and bodies providing vital goods and services. These are times in which we need to join forces and reinforce social cohesion, not take extreme decisions and spread division. The EAC Board of Directors wishes to believe that the majority of its personnel recognize the crucial nature of the times and their own great responsibility to society as a whole.

  • The EAC Board of Directors is open to dialogue and agreement with all interested parties, in a framework of mutual respect and distinct roles that serve the integrity of EAC's operations and place above all else the realization of the Organisation's mission to the country and its citizens.
